At Surhilo, we’re all about the good stuff. Our mission is to provide customers with beautiful hand-knitted clothing, produced with the highest quality materials, while supporting local artisans in the region where our fiber is sourced.
Surhilo was created by husband and wife team, Raimundo & Eileen Gaete. Founded in 2017, Surhilo is a combination of their passion for creativity, and bringing South American culture to the rest of the world.
Surhilo means “southern knit.” Raimundo is a Chilean-born entrepreneur who has a love for travel, food, and Latin culture. Eileen comes from a family of “makers” and has been knitting or crocheting since she learned the craft from her grandmother Alice at age 10. We like to say that Raimundo is the “Sur” and Eileen is the “hilo.”
All of our products are made with 100% natural baby alpaca, superfine alpaca fiber or premium pima cotton, sourced sustainably in Peru. When you purchase one of our garments, not only are you supporting a small business, you’re also supporting local artisans and farmers around South America. We believe in the slow fashion movement - designing, creating, and buying garments for quality and longevity while promoting fair wages, lower carbon footprints, and producing less waste.
